stick with the nutrition that your body is designed for
So yes, I am still digging into why carnivore works for so many people. See my previous blog on whether or not we should be eating our veggies. HERE I was reminded recently how acidic the human stomach is. Human stomach acid pH is around 1.5 (between 1 and 2). And it made me wonder what the stomach pH of other carnivores would be versus the pH of herbivores. What I’ve come across is an article that I’ve linked below.
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0134116
are you a herbivore, and omnivore, or a carnivore
This article suggests that the stomach acts as a filter. If the species’ specific diet of an animal is closely related to itself, the stomach pH would be low like ours. Versus an herbivore with a more neutral pH between 4.5 and 7, eating plants with little resemblance to their own physiology. This has to do with the need to digest and breakdown certain parasitic organisms that we don’t want in our system. You may have heard me say in previous talks or blogs that some of the parasites inside us closely resemble our own DNA, so the immune system might not always recognize them as foreign invaders. There are some carnivores who eat species completely unrelated to themselves and therefore do not need as a low a pH as we do. This is another piece to the puzzle of figuring out whether we are truly carnivores or omnivores. We are certainly not Herbivores.
I let myself fall into the sweet treat addictive hole over the holidays, and it was difficult to pull myself back out. What finally startled me awake, was the fact that every time I indulged, it sent me running to the bathroom. Since Wednesday, I’ve had ZERO plants, and guess what? My hair stopped falling out. It’s been falling out in handfuls and covering my bedding and clothes daily for the past several weeks. I thought it started around Thanksgiving when I was not feeling well. But that was about the time I splurged on my first carbohydrate treat in a long time. So was it the sugar? The toxins in the plant? Or the fiber? I suppose it could have been “just” the sugar. However, my guess is that it was a combo of all 3. Before I began Carnivore back in June, my hair was falling out and I was keto, very low carb, and eating lower carb veg. So I don’t think it was the sugar alone.

We need hormones for practically every function in the body. Toxin load interrupts hormone function. Lower saturated animal fat interrupts hormone function. Sugars and things that break down quickly into sugar are imbalancing to the pancreas, which is an endocrine/exocrine (hormone) gland. And the fiber slows down and blocks the absorption of nutrients. (See previous Carni blog) Why fill your gut with a whole bunch of fibrous rich foods of a low energy source, like salad, broccoli, or cauliflower? The fiber and the toxins block the absorption of the nutrients present in the food. You aren’t getting any fuel from it either.

I feel like a super hero, just like Anthony Chaffee and Kerry Mann talked about in this video.

I feel amazing! I don’t feel sluggish. I don’t have brain fog. My hair isn’t falling out. My face isn’t breaking out; my skin looks amazing. I’m dropping weight again. I have a desire to exercise because I have so much energy! I worked 2 very long days yesterday and the day before and I’m still going. It really is amazing how different I feel on Full Carnivore as opposed to 90-95% Carnivore. I wish I could convince others to try this, and just let their emotional foods go. Just let ‘em go. It’s not worth it.

Your tastebuds will shift, and pretty soon you won’t even want that other stuff. I don’t want to live the next 30 years feeling mediocre, or in any way less than I could feel. Just plodding along. And the funny thing is, I never used to have a taste for meat. Didn’t like it much really. Now I LOVE it! It tastes incredible! And lettuce and veggies taste incredibly bitter to me. Processed foods taste like a mouthful of chemicals.

I choose to follow nature. What does my gut tell me about what I should eat. Do I have a large cecum for fermenting fiber? No. Do I have a large foregut or hindgut for fermenting? No. I am an animal with a stomach pH of 1.5.

I want to thrive for the rest of my life. Not just survive. Next time I’m in an addiction hole eating sugar and other plants, will somebody please remind me how good I feel right now?

~Connie

P.S. Did anyone else learn in elementary school the difference between predator and prey? I distinctly remember being taught that animals with eyes on the side of their head are prey. They need to be able to see all around them as a protective measure. Animals with eyes in the front are predators and have sharp vision to track down their prey. Does this make anyone else feel primal?
